The easiest way to test whether your newsletter has any soul…

Only 44% of Americans were “very satisfied” with their personal lives in 2025 – a Gallup survey showed.

It’s a new low from the 59% in 2007.

A lot of people are not happy, but how could they even be?

  • They’re unhappy with watching their already expensive city/state… become even more unaffordable by the next month…
  • They’re unhappy with their local, regional and national government failing them every step of the way…
  • They’re unhappy with the incessant media machine relentlessly doom-pilling them about wars, AI, job destruction, and the next health scare…
  • They’re unhappy with the FOMO of trying to keep up with the latest trends, fads, news, tech and the “Joneses” in general…
  • They’re unhappy with constant arguing/fighting and/or biting their tongues until they bleed to avoid such situations…

(And everything above goes just as much for non-US countries as well – maybe even more so since no economy is as “robust” as the US’s is.)

Their ability to pay attention to what YOU want them to talk about…

(i.e. listen to that sales pitch you call a “promo email” for that pre-workout…)

Is severely compromised.

They can’t.

The room won’t stop spinning long enough.

Whatever they’re doing…

…they are simultaneously thinking about what else they should be doing.

Which brings me to the standard marketing email in this space:

(All are real emails from 5 different supplement brands “blessing” my inbox.)

How happy will these emails make someone?

Do they get excited – their brain gushing with dopamine – when they open their inbox…

…and see just another stranger out to get a sale out of them?

“Oh but I’m not a stranger, our customers know us an-“

You are a stranger.

Because you’re behaving in the same manner 99% of this industry does – a pitchman treating its customer as just part of a herd there to be billed.

You have no differentiation, you blend in with the crowd – and thus you are indeed a stranger.

Here’s a fun experiment:

Assume one of the emails above was yours.

If I had asked you to recognize which email was sent by YOU…

Would you be able to recognize it?

My money is – aside from a lucky 1/5 guess – you wouldn’t.

And if I went to the supplement brands who sent those emails above…

…I would put money on it that they wouldn’t be able to.

Those emails are just ADDING onto people’s already latent unhappiness.

Which raises the inverse question:

What if WE became that tiny bright spot in their otherwise gloomy day…

…every time they opened one of our emails?

What if – for the 2-3 minutes we show up in their inbox each day – we gave them a brief little escape from all the noise, stress and general hubbub of daily life swirling around them?

(You are emailing every day right? If not, see Blind Spot #2 chapter inside my book.)

How though?

NOW you’re asking the right questions.

However, that’s too loaded a question to cover in a simple email like this – many layers to that onion…

But I peel back the layers inside my book – Blind Spot #5 chapter, most notably.

It’s what my Email Storyselling approach is largely about:

To provide the people on your newsletter with an inbox experience SO GOOD…

…it downright makes them feel guilty buying supplements from someone else.

Admittedly:

This is a path of significantly more friction, labour and resistance than the standard “throw them a sales pitch offer” email school.

But it’s also precisely why it’s a competitive advantage:

Few of your competitors have the patience – or, honestly, even know-how – to do this.

So if you’ve been seeking some kind of “leg-up” against the flurry of the competition you’re dealing with?

Email Storyselling might be it.
